Now He Sleeps

Doesn't Robert look so sweet and innocent? This is how he has decided to spend his morning after spending most of the night awake.
I tell you, babies are lucky they are so darn cute. If only the other children would decide to spend their morning asleep. I am really looking forward to nap time today.

Boys

Boys are strange creatures. There are certain things that every mother should be told shortly after giving birth to a boy. Namely your days of having things make sense are gone. Instead they will be filled with pulling Darth Vader's head out of the couch cushions, stepping on Legos, mediating sword fights, hearing a constant barrage of shooting noises coming from your child's mouth, getting the child out of strange places, dealing with the child stuck 20 feet up in a tree or the child who climbed into the barn loft but is now afraid to come back down. Then there is the boy who seems to think chickens should live in the house with the rest of the family. I swear I never thought the words "get the chicken out of the house" would come out of my mouth. Boys seem to live to make a mess and can seek out the only mud puddle anywhere. Boys are also programmed to fight, defend and protect. So all of their annoying games and war battles and such are really setting the stage for what they may be called to do with their lives as men. I mean, who really wants to be married to that whimpy guy who freaks at the sight of blood or spiders and can't swing a hammer to save his life? I do my best to remind myself that all of these obnoxious behaviors serve a purpose for later in life but I do wonder what it would be like to have a house full of children with calmer personalities. For now I will stick with sending the rowdy bunch outside or down to the playroom and the swords will remain confiscated on top of the fridge until they are able to engage their minds while swinging them. We will make an attempt to focus on the chivalrous aspects of being a man and life and simply hope that one day we will be able to go to bed without a headache from all the noise. I guess the reason you aren't told all of these things about having boys is because if you only knew what was waiting for you down the road, you just may run screaming from the prospect of what your darling little babe might turn into.

Yummy Bread

So why is this bread picture worthy? You are looking at one of the first two loaves I have made since Robert was born. Yup, I am finally attempting to get back into making our bread and maybe actually making dinner every once in a while. Now to get Robert to get with the program and give me a bit more time to work when he is not insisting on being held and fed. I'm sure that will come in time and until then I will go back to using the crockpots pretty near constantly.

Meet Wiley

We added a new dog to the crew yesterday. Wiley is about 7 years old and came to us family ready. The poor dog is still adjusting to her new surroundings. She does not like most of the floors in the house and is a tad overwhelmed still by all the people who are trying to play with her. It seems that all of the boys in this house (small and large alike) have a hard time understanding that we should let the poor dog get used to us and stop getting in her face. I'm hoping that in a few days everyone will have adjusted. Wiley seems much calmer than Davie was and is currently spending most of the day camped out on her dog beds. She even brought talking dog toys with her. Those I am not so thrilled with but they keep her happy.

Learn From Me

Never ever feed your children pop tarts before church. Especially if you will be taking them alone. I think the sugar highs were a bit noticeable today.

Play Museum

I've decided it is time to start venturing out with the kids again on a regular basis so today we headed to the Play Museum. I think this is their favorite place to go around here. This was the first visit where Gabe was old enough to be let out of the stroller to run around and play. That boy had a great time. Except for the massive fits when it was time to get back into the stroller to go somewhere else. He is a determined child. A determined child who wore himself out and is now sound asleep upstairs. Just wanted to share a few pictures. I think I found ones with everyone in them but if I skipped a child, I promise there were all there.
