Baby Chicks

The chicks arrived this morning. We got a phone call from the post office rather early this morning asking us to please come get the little noise makers.  Seems the folks at the post office aren't really partial to having chicks in their space all day.
Once they were all counted, we have 26 chicks.  I'm hoping that one ends up being a rooster.  We ordered all egg layers but added on the free "rare chick" which could be a rooster.  Last time it did turn out to be a rooster which was kind of nice until the dog killed the poor thing.  Yes, I'm weird but I kind of liked having a rooster around.  They do tend to be a bit protective of their flock which is a good thing.
Tonight we will move the chicks down to the basement and when the weather warms up a bit, we'll move them out to the garage.  For now they are hanging out in the school room near the pellet stove with the rest of us.
